How is the halfway point calculated?
We compute the geographic midpoint using spherical geometry — converting both cities' coordinates to 3D Cartesian vectors, averaging them, and converting back to latitude and longitude. This gives the true midpoint on the Earth's surface, not just the midpoint of a straight line on a flat map.
What city is shown as the halfway point?
After finding the geographic midpoint, we identify the nearest populated city or town in our database to that coordinate. The result shows the distance each person would travel from their starting city to that meeting location.
Is the halfway point equidistant from both cities?
The geographic midpoint is equidistant in straight-line terms. However, driving distances to the midpoint city may not be perfectly equal because road networks are not symmetric — one side might have more direct motorways than the other.
