- Driving time is calculated at an average 80 km/h including breaks.
Frequently asked questions
How is the driving distance estimated?
We start with the great-circle (straight-line) distance between the two cities and multiply by a road-network correction factor of 1.3. This accounts for the fact that roads curve around terrain and urban areas. The result is a close estimate; actual GPS-routed distances may vary slightly.
How is driving time calculated?
Driving time is based on the estimated road distance divided by an average speed of 80 km/h, which already includes typical rest stops and slower urban sections. It is a planning estimate and does not account for traffic jams or border crossings.
Does the drive distance include toll roads?
The distance estimate covers the most direct road path regardless of toll status. For a breakdown of expected toll costs along the route, use the Cost of Driving Calculator.
Why does this differ from my car navigation app?
Navigation apps use live map data and may route you via motorways, ferries, or avoid traffic — all of which change the total distance. Our figure is a straight-line-based estimate useful for quick comparisons, not turn-by-turn routing.
